The New Year traditionally brings change and progression - this is true for The Tudor Choristers this year as our current Music Director, Carlos Del Cueto takes his bow (and baton) and passes the role on to his successor.

It is with great delight that we welcome Christopher Watson as our new Music Director.  Christopher is currently Director of Music at Trinity College at the University of Melbourne, and St. Peters, Eastern Hill, and has an enviable back-catalogue of musical engagements.

Prior to his move to Australia nearly 9 years ago, he spent nearly 19 years as a member of the Tallis Scholars, with whom he made 550 appearances, as well as Tenebrae and the Gabrieli Consort.  He has performed in many of the great concert halls of the world, and has appeared as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Symphony Orchestra, among others.  He says perhaps the crowning moment of his singing career was as the English national anthem singer at the Ashes Boxing Day test at the MCG in 2017.  (We won't hold that against him!)

The Tudor Choristers warmly thank our outgoing Music Director, Carlos del Cueto, for his musical stewardship of the choir since the beginning of 2024.  In Carlos' words, "I'm grateful for the experience of working with the Tudors these past couple of years.  We tackled and discovered some fabulous works.  And I couldn't be happier to hand over the reins to Chris Watson at a time when my family needs a bit more of my time.  I look forward to sharing the next concert with him as we smoothly transition to his time heading the choir."

The Tudor Choristers have greatly appreciated Carlos' music direction and commitment to choral excellence.  He will continue to have our deep respect and friendship.  We hope to find future collaboration opportunities.

Christopher and Carlos have designed a wonderful transition program to celebrate Christmas, on which they are collaborating.  Planning for 2026 is well underway, and the Tudor Choristers are really excited to see this next chapter unfold.
